Legal Assistant

Legal Assistant will perform clerical and administrative functions for Law Department, focusing on tax collection litigation preparation and judgment enforcement. Responsibilities will include providing administrative support to attorneys and management through conducting and organizing necessary administrative functions, interacting with taxpayers and attorneys, and performing clerical tasks. The successful candidate will be organized, motivated and be able to operate under minimal supervision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Draft relevant legal pleadings including complaints, motions and writs.
  • Prepare and manage case files.
  • Answer phone calls and respond to email correspondence within a timely manner.
  • Develop and maintain a basic understanding of relevant law and internal processes.
  • Maintain attorney calendars.
  • File pleadings electronically as needed.
  • Transcribe dictation.

Job Qualifications:

Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • High school graduate or have an equivalency certificate (GED); Paralegal Certificate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 - 3 years of legal experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing, editing, proofing, listening and grammar skills.
  • Must have knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, office processes, and computer software applications.
  • Professional phone and email experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and prioritize assignments.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Initiative and ability to operate independently under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information.
  • Ability to learn new tasks.
  • Flexibility

Physical Requirements Necessary to Perform This Job:

  • Ability to lift to 15 lbs.
  • Sit for extended periods of time.

Tools and Equipment Used:

  • Use keyboard, adding machine, phone and advanced scanners and printers.
